Fonzie S.A. was selected for importation from the Netherlands after a long search for a stallion that exhibited exceptional type, athleticism, movement, temperament, and size. These attributes are the items we consider critical when selecting an ideal Friesian for crossbreeding purposes.
Despite being only 4, Fonzie has an impressive list of successes. He achieved an “AA” rating after scoring an impressive 77 on the IBOP. He was also awarded Ster and wen through the 3rd round of stallion selection in the Netherlands. He was invited to the 70-day test, but has not yet attended.
Fonzie’s sire Epke 474 is one of the largest approved Friesian breeding stallions and has established himself as the pre-eminent source for Friesian type. Epke stamped Fonzie with his trademark tight, small ears and large eye cages. Epke 474 has a “AAA” title from his IBOP score and was named a Model stallion.
Fonzie’s mother is the Model mare Mirthe M. AA who has also achieved her Sport predicate and been named Champion or Reserve Champion at multiple keurings. Mirthe M.’s mother is the famed Birthe M. AA who has achieved her Model, Preferent, and Prestatiemoeder predicates. Birthe M.’s mother, Wendela van de Dwarsakkers, also achieved the same predicates.
Fonzie’s maternal grandsire is the beautiful Onne 376 who achieved fame in his extensive harness competitions across Europe and was also named Champion of H.K. te Leeuwarden.
In Fonzie’s pedigree you will find names of some of the breed’s most beloved stars: Jasper 366 and Anton 343. Jasper 366 has had incredible influence across the breed, but it is his longevity that has continued to keep him in the spotlight. At age 25, he was presented at the stallion show to a standing ovation (a rare age for a Friesian to be presented so successfully). Anton 343 has also been a hallmark in the Friesian breed. His images have graced countless promotions and his incredible mane was always unmistakable. His linear score was near perfect and he also proved himself as a worthy competitor in sport.
